THE ROTARY WAIST DISPOSAL CHALLENGE “If you don't have enough time for good health, one day you might not have enough health for a good time"
Aim of the challenge This project is about weight loss, choosing healthy foods and taking up regular exercise that will help in preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Details on levels of the Challenge Level 1: Up to three educational presentations per year on nutrition, exercise and other healthy lifestyle habits, during normal club meeting time. Level 2: A monthly monitoring of BMI (Body Mass Index = weight divided by height squared): Two volunteers in each club (called champions) will take on the responsibility of weighing Rotarians and keeping a monthly record of all weights. The Rotary Club with the highest reduction in club BMI, by next year district conference, will be awarded the ECU Waist Disposal Trophy to commend their efforts in “keeping men off the endangered species list”. Level 3: A telephone lifestyle coaching service will be offered to Rotarians and their partners (using a buddy system approach). This will consist of a weight loss program tailored to the needs of participants and monitored at regular intervals through routine follow-up by the lifestyle coach.
Important note Participants are free to decide whether or not to participate at any level of the Challenge in your club. Participation will be confidential and no identifying information will be released.
