DG Keith Hopkins (Libby)
Charles
Keith Hopkins was born in Perth and completed university Bachelor
and Post-graduate studies in Geography and Education at the
University of WA. Keith began his working life with the National
Bank of Australia in Perth before choosing to pursue a career in
education. As high school teacher and level 3 administrator, Keith
worked in Senior High Schools in Perth, Esperance, Bunbury,
Merredin and Collie. In 1975 Keith and Libby chose to settle on a
farm in Collie and teach at the local Senior High School. Now after
25 years as a level 3 administrator at Collie High School, Keith
has retired from teaching and they have moved to their new home in
Leschenault.
Within
weeks of joining the Rotary Club of Collie, Keith became the club's
bulletin editor and after holding a variety of board positions,
became the club's president in 2004/05. A Paul Harris Fellow,
Keith has been a RYLA camp Dad in 1999 and a Handicamp carer in
2006. At District level, Keith spent 8 years on the Youth Exchange
Committee, several of these as its Chairman, 2 years as District
Chairman for Interact, and has represented the District Governors
as their AG for Group 7. Keith was also actively involved with hi
sClub's planning for PDG John Simmonds' District Conference in
2004/05.
A sports
enthusiast, Keith spent 40 years playing, coaching and umpiring
junior and senior hockey teams in Perth and in Country areas.
During this time, his equal passion for spear fishing saw him
compete in four Australian Skindiving Championships, helping to run
the national spear fishing and scuba diving convention in Busselton
in 1968.
Keith and
Libby live in Leschenault, just north of Australind. They have two
children, Chris and Kate. Chris, an ex RYLArian has a Masters
Degree in Environmental Law and works for an environmental
consultancy in Perth. Chris is married to Nicola, a lovely Irish
lass he met in London. Kate, an ex RYLArian and Rotary Youth
Exchangee with an honours degree in Japanese language recently
returned from five years working in Japan, and teaches at
Australind SHS. Libby is a member of the Rotary Club of
Harvey.
Libby is
an enthusiast supporter of Rotary and Rotary Youth programmes.
Libby teaches Geography at Collie SHS where she was for many years
a house leader/counsellor, and Interact mentor. For eight years
Libby was deeply involved as a member of the District 9460 Youth
Exchange Committee. During this time Libby was also able to be an
active participant as a RYLA camp Mum and as a teacher counsellor
at Harvey MUNA. A keen horsewoman, Libby is Pony Club visiting
Commissioner and a member of the Pony club WA State Coaching
Panel.
As
District Governor 2009-2010, Keith and Libby, with the active
support of family and friends, look forward to making a greater
contribution to Rotary and District 9460 by encouraging and
fostering the growth of Rotary in Western Australia. |
